Hardscape Designer

Unity Homes is looking for a Hardscape Designer. Must have design and hands-on experience!

As the Hardscape Designer for Residential Estates, you will design and implement hardscaping projects for residential estates. You will be responsible for ensuring that the outdoor spaces of these estates are aesthetically pleasing, environmentally sustainable, functional and add value to residents through place making strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design:
    • Design hardscaping areas including paved areas like walkways and driveways, benches, landscape lighting, sculptures, retaining walls, play areas, “wow! – moments” and aesthetically appealing plazas that compliment the landscaping design specifications and quality standards.
    • Case studies and mood boards before conceptual designs to enhance design standards.
    • Production of detailed designs for implementation.
    • Timely identification and implementation of design changes.

 

  • Construction Oversight:
    • Supervise the implementation of hardscaping projects during the construction phase, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
    • Coordinate with contractors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to manage project timelines and budgets.
    • Conduct site inspections to monitor progress and address any issues that may arise.

 

  • Procurement and Sourcing for New Materials:
    • Source and procure high-quality hardscaping materials from reputable suppliers.
    • Select samples based on aesthetic considerations, climate suitability, and maintenance requirements.
    • Procurement of sculptures
    • Ensure that selected materials are weather-resistant and suitable for the local environment.

 

  • Maintenance and Care:
    • Develop and implement maintenance schedules for the various hardscaping features you have designed.
    • Oversee maintenance tasks.
    • Monitor and implement design changes required in a timely manner.

 

  • HSE
    • Safety in design elements and considering aspects that reduce the risk of injury.
    • Responsible for residents’ safety while using hardscape areas and others affected by your work’s scope.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Studies, Landscape Architecture or Design Related Field preferred.
  • Proven experience in hardscaping design, construction and maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of new urbanism principles and hardscaping ideas that complement the landscape design.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to plan, organise, and prioritise tasks effectively.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in design software and Microsoft Office Suite.
